Mario Testino's Towel series started when he realised that Kate Moss sat in a white dressing gown with a towel wrapped around her head on set of a photoshoot. After seeing Kate, he saw beauty and purity within her which he wanted to capture in his own images of celebrities. His series was ongoing and went viral quickly. It published on Mario's Instagram. The aim of the series was to help both girls and boys be able to have the freedom to be able to express themselves by wearing what they want, even if it is a simple white dressing robe.

He also decided to start taking photographs of different celebrities in a white robe so that he could take people 'back to the basics'. He wanted the towel series to be pure, fresh and basic, which is extremely different from day to day life which is filled with colour, fonts, information and images. When shooting so many different celebrities he allows each individual to wear the robe and towel exactly how they want to wear it.

Since launching the towel series on Instagram, celebs including Kendall Jenner, Justin Bieber, Kristen Stewart, Miley Cyrus and many more have been featured within the series. Each celeb chose how they wanted to wear the robe and the towel, allowing them to be themselves. The whole point of the series shows that even though something as simple as a plain white towel and robe can be boring, it looks so beautiful and pure on each individual celebrity.
