Fashion for Freshers!
Becoming a fresher and starting university in a new place and environment can be .xtremely scary for some. I am going to write about my fashion experiences, especially during freshers week! I am also going to be writing about fashion for students in general.
Living in Nottingham is extremely creative. What I mean by this is, walking around Nottingham City Centre (especially on a Wednesday or Friday night) can be very exciting to look. For anyone reading this, that doesn't live in Nottingham and hasn't experienced an Ocean Wednesday or Friday, I am going to elaborate a little more on the sights that you may see on the nights of Ocean.
Ocean is one of the biggest clubs in Nottingham and it is best known for its cheesy music, and brilliant fancy dress theme. Often when walking around at night in Nottingham on a Wednesday, you see topless army boys, students in onesies, cheerleaders and so on. For someone new living at uni, this can be a very strange thing to see on a random Wednesday evening. Below is a perfect example of something you would expect to see on a Wednesday or a Friday night in Nottingham, a group of 'Naked Sims'
Freshers week was the start of all the crazy fancy dress! Each night was a different theme, which allowed new students to express themselves through what they wearing. I personally love fancy dress and think it is a really fun way to meet people when going out and make friends. The best part of it all for students in Nottingham, if you like to dress up, there is a great fancy dress shop in the INTU centre called 'luvyababes'. They sell everything from glitter all the way to full dress up outfits. During freshers me and my flat mates would walk down to luvyababes and buy a different outfit each night to match the theme of the freshers event. During my freshers week we had the 'Trent army night', we also has a beach theme, animal theme, UV theme and glitter theme. All of the event that were held during freshers were extremely enjoyable and the fancy dress made things very interesting!
What to wear as a student?
When I first started university, I imagined myself making extreme amounts of effort in what I was going to wear on a daily basis. I really thought that I was going to turn up to lectures looking smart and sassy! After living at university for 4 months now, I have come to the realisation that waking up at 8:00am for a 9:00am lecture, often hungover, the last thing anyone would want to do is put a nice outfit on and a full face of makeup. It has come to the point where I usually end up chucking a comfortable tracksuit on in the morning and leave my flat with no makeup on.
Nightlife at uni is also a lot more relaxed than I expected it to be. Before coming to university I expected people to get extremely dressed up on a night out. Don't get me wrong, a lot of people do like to go full out and get extremely fancy and dressed up however, a lot of girls that I know and go out with just put a pair of jeans, maybe a cute crop top or bodysuit and usually a pair of trainers. Again, me personally I am quite a chilled person so I often go with that sort of vibe aswell when it comes to going out. Wearing heels on a night out is personally my worst nightmare, that is purely because of the pain that they cause my feet, so I tend to stick with a classic pair of vans or black converse! Simple, comfortable whilst at the same time stylish and presentable.
