My favourite artist!

Personally I am not a big art fan. However Banksy is one of the few artists that really does catch my eye!

Banksy is an English based street artist. His work is extremely distinctive. This is because he combines his dark humour with graffiti which is what makes his techniques so distinctive.

Below are a few of my favourite pieces that Banksy has done!

This is a cat that was painted in Gaza amongst a load of ruined buildings and surroundings. I like this piece because Banksy's dark humour really comes out. It is painted amongst such a serious and sad situation, and the fact that a giant cat has been painted in the middle of it all, makes a bad situation a little more positive. It also gives people something to stop to look at and appreciate rather than just feeling upset and sorry about the surroundings.

Below is another piece of Banksy's work I really found interesting. It is a plain wooden wall somewhere outside, he decided to place a barcode on it. I found this really intriguing and eye
catching. It is a very clever thing to place on a random wall. This is because every time somebody walks past it they are immediately going to wonder what the barcode is for. Banksy has managed to put something so simple and boring, something we see all the time in day-to-day life, into something so much more than just a barcode. Every time someone walks past, it will be the question of stopping and asking themselves what that barcode is for.

Below Is another example of a Banksy piece that shows his dark humour. The idea behind this image is that animal are trapped in a van, likely being taken somewhere. Often people would interpret this as a sad situation. The way that Banksy has added colour and emotion to each different animal, shows that he is trying to make a bad situation, as good as possible. The fact that the animals are smiling whilst being trapped in a big van shows that Banksy has a dark and maybe a different type of sense of humour that other people may have.
