Reading week: Design in a nutshell

Design in a nutshell is a 6 part series which shows six major design movements.
The arts and crafts movement became bigger and bigger because of the rebellion to the negative impact of large productions and the industrial revolution.

Arts and craft was never just about glitter, glue and creating things. Years ago people became very fed up with using machines. Individuals started using technology and were able to create many products for people without thinking of the final product.

William Morris was a poet and artist. He said we don't reject the machine we master it. People like Morris like to see craftmanship and to be able to see new products being made on a regular basis.

Arts and crafts had a global appeal. People love to know where there stuff is made and if it is made well.

Bauhaus -
Bauhaus was one of the most definitive design movements of the modern age reaching its peak between two world wards.

BAUHAUS - translated from German means "house of construction". Bauhaus was the beginning of an art school in Germany.

Bahaus was all about ideas, reform, exploration and vitality. About making more tidy sense of the rapidly evolving world around us at the same time as giving us more cool stuff to put in our homes!

Modernism -
Modernists want to forget about history or be able to reinterpret it.
Modernism is applied to virtually all forms of creative expression.
